That said even with all that around their program they won their first women's WC. Everything points to the U.S. getting gapped in the power race of Women's soccer by the top Euro squads. South American sides besides Brasil are also improving while you see the same consistency from the Aussie ladies and Japanese. Athletics in this country are simply too saturated. Too many good high level sports in competition for the best athletes paired with weak youth systems like in the case of Women's soccer. There's also been a drop-off in sports participation in some areas of the country like the rural northeast. I see more parents getting their kids into other hobbies or more and more kids preferring video games and social media channels. Not to mention the rise of eSports...
