Agree with this sentiment. The rankings are click bait. Very effective, just look at all of us responding. I think there is some merit in the evaluations but so many factors go into a player’s success including his athletic maturity, his comfort level in a system, the fit within a locker room, the relationship with coaching staffs, the role he is asked to play, the off-field distractions, his health, and maybe most importantly, his commitment to the process. How do you objectively evaluate the future success of Player A: hotbed, historic high school program, sat and developed behind D1 guys, played middie as junior and attack as senior in a system he played within since 2nd grade using the same system on his club team versus Played B: non-hotbed, star of his HS program, didn’t play in a sophisticated system but was asked to be the primary goal scorer, initiator, wing, man down shortie and one man clear in any important moment and he convinced his buddies to play so they could even have a club team. One guy may be closer to his ceiling and you are confident in what you are getting, one may or may not thrive when surrounded by talented players and a system.
