https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/NYM/2024-schedule-scores.shtml Back to .500 for the first time since May 9th! It's been an interesting 48 days. We started 0-5, then went 12-3, then 12-27 and 15-4 since. I like our chances of continuing this run because we are scoring runs at such a huge rate and we don't even have the guy who was supposed to be our ace pitcher, (Senga) back yet. Diaz will be back, as well. I think the moves and player development that's been focusing on the last couple of years is coming to fruition. The toughest line-up to face isn't one with a superstar or two in the middle of the line-up. It's one that can send 9 guys in a row to the plate who can hurt you. Defense keeps you in games but offense allows you to overcome mistakes, (like throwing one into Aaron Judge's wheelhouse) and still win. Catching the Phillies will be tough but unnecessary: two years ago both the Braves and Mets finished 14 games ahead of the Phillies - and them watched them paying in the World Series. In another thread it said that in the NBA, the team with the better regular season record wins 80% of the playoff series. In the NHL and MLB it's 60%. I'm big for the idea that playoffs should be between teams that have show themselves to be elite during the regular season going head-to-head to determine who is the best of the best. But that's not the way things are done these days. It's make the playoffs and get hot in the playoffs. That could be the Mets. Both the offensive draughts, like we had in the 12-27 stretch, and the offensive explosions will force the Mets to make a lot of difficult decisions. A lot of their young players play the same position or the same position as their veteran players. When they are scoring runs, they don't need to retain .200 hitters or could trade .300 hitters.
