After the dust has cleared, it is interesting to see how the pitching roster looks. Right now there are 5 starting pitchers on the roster: Blackburn Quintana Manaea Peterson Severino They can either stick with this or stay with the plan to use a 6 man rotation by converting Butto back to a starter. That was primarily being driven by the arrival of Senga so who knows what they will do now. We know Megill will not be staying in the rotation. He was demoted to Syracuse when Blackburn was added to the roster. The relievers are currently Diaz Brazoban Stanek Maton Ottavino Young Young and Butto, who may or may not be a reliever right now. It will be very interesting to see who gets the call to pitch the 7th and 8th innings these days. Guessing Stanek gets the 7th and Brazilian the 8th (assuming they are rested). But Maton will also surely be in the mix and maybe Ottavino will get added to the circle of trust soon as well. Reid-Foley is close to finishing a rehab assignment and will probably be added to the roster soon. He will presumably replace one of the lefty Youngs. Garrett Reed has just started a rehab assignment (he is about to join Syracuse), believe he started his rehab in Brooklyn). He will be presumably be added in about a week. That will drive a tough decision that will probably result in the Mets sending down the only lefty remaining in the bullpen. Or the release of Adam Ottavino. I think he is well liked and respected so releasing him would be tough. And then there is Christian Scott, who is in the midst of a 2 week shutdown whereupon a decision will be made to shut him down for the year (and probably have Tommy John surgery) or to put him right back in the rotation, which would drive another tough decision (might end up sending Reid-Foley down). Winker’s arrival drove the reassignment of DJ Stewart to Syracuse, which many Mets fans have been pining for. Speaking of Syracuse, Drew Gilbert is finally playing and just went 2-4 last night. They were unfortunately rained out tonight in Columbus.
