Mets need to win at least one of these last two to get into the playoffs.

Mets will reportedly start Megill in game one.  And Severino in game two.  But if they win game one, they might go with an opener and effectively throw the game so they can use Severino in game one of the playoffs.  That also pairs them with the Nrewers instead of San Diego, which seems preferable.

If they lose game one and have to use Sevy in game two of the DH and he gets the win, they have to go to a bullpen game in game one of the playoffs or use a starter with 3 days rest.

Ugly but better that having to win both games to survive.

This sets up a scenario where the team that wins game one of the doubleheader tomorrow is in the playoffs and will start subs and use their worst pitchers to best prepare themselves for the playoffs the next day.

Arizona only gets in if one team sweeps the doubleheader, which is not something in the best interests of the Mets or Braves.
