The Mets lost to a better team. I had hoped they could pull of a win against the Dodger's bullpen and get a 7th game but it was not to be. Manea pitched a career high number of innings this season and just didn't have anything left. Next year we need a better start and to try to avoid the first round. The grind of fighting all season to get into the wild card race and then into the playoffs (on the last day of the season) and then win two series just to get to the NLCS was too much. Looking at their records, I'm not sure our starting pitching will hold up next years. These guys all seemed to have career years or close to it: https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/manaese01.shtml https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/severlu01.shtml https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/q/quintjo01.shtml https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/peterda01.shtml Getting Senga back will help. Maybe Megill or Scott will develop into starters. Maybe we'll bring in a top free agent pitcher or make a trade. The day-to-day line-up will continue to evolve and become very good. I think the depth of the organization will continue to grow as well. I've always said that the Mets can't have the Yankees past but I think they can have the Yankees present and future: being their leagues New York franchise and having the money and management to put a quality product on the field every year. We should have a long run of winning seasons, be in the playoffs more often than not, get into at least a couple of world series a decade and each generation should have at least one MLB champion to remember. I think that's going to happen.
