I see it sort of as an offensive run play. The defender isn’t trying to get around him but hold his position. The O-lineman is trying to drive him back which he did just a little bit. This is what you would expect to happen with the size differential between them. Offensively Spoon probably typically has a bit smaller DE he is going against in most schemes. Defensively Hastings can probably slip the push a bit and try to make a play on the ball carrier which he really can’t do this in this drill.
