The Penn St Dumpster Fire Thread

Their fans would revolt. They need a splash. Cignetti, Rhule, Gruden, Doug Pederson would fit IMO. Cignetti has no reason to leave. Rhule has been a disappointment IMO thus far.
Which by the way is kind of hilarious. Very few guys out there will be able to outperform Franklin. Maybe they find them. I hope they don’t lol. Also the head coaching job in general is so different than even a few years ago. Sometimes it’s better to hire someone on what you think they can do in the future, not what they’ve done and hope they improve or replicate it.

I'd hire Drinkwitz. Missou extended him over the summer but didn't get a big buyout. The SEC has their blue bloods and Missou is never going to be one of them. Knows offense and can recruit. He's in Fran's peer group but probably a little ahead.

Recruits and players will be having a mass exodus get ready to start getting more 4 and 5 stars in the region. I think we will end up getting legacy Jett Harrison . This is a huge deal also we play Penn state in 2027.
I like your thinking. We have to reap some benefits of a destabilized Penn State program. This doesn’t happen often.

They could do something about not deifying Paterno when there was clear evidence he was part of the coverup
I have no idea what the average fans role in that was, but if that’s the rationale we are making some strong assumptions about 100s of thousands of people. I truly doubt Jim down the street with the Penn state flag is claiming it was okay Joe covered up the molestation but I also doubt that means he’s going to never cheer for his alma mater. The university is quite a bit bigger than one man.

I don't, in any way shape or form. Their fan base was in in denial about those events, then to help vindicated when that scumbag Joe Paterno got his wins reinstated, and gleefully re-erected his statue.

If anything, the fan base deserves more blame than what they got. They learned nothing from this horrendous scandal, and in fact feel as though they've been wronged.

Screw all of them.
What exactly we’re the fans supposed to learn? they’re not running the team. It’s not like the Syracuse fan base up and ran the minute the fine allegations came out. i recognize we didn’t build the guy a statue but it wasn’t like the dome was empty the next game.

Rhule is so overrated. I do hope it is him. We can take advantage of Penn State going from an 11-2 to 9-4 type of program.
Disagree. He did great at Temple, he inherited a complete dumpster fire at Baylor and did great there and now Nebraska is learning how to win again with him. I think his NFL stint makes people think he is overrated.

Jay Paterno, is this you?

My guess Fran is going to be a little too much an unknown for PSU this time around...but not by much.
This. And something Fran said when he was hired. Said when he visited Syracuse to interview, he asked to be take to the worst neighborhood in the city of Syracuse. He saw Syracuse had the same type of neighborhoods he grew up in Camden.

Said that clinched things for him. He knew then he was meant to coach at Syracuse. He wants to put a strong focus on the worst neighborhoods, spend time there and show people there there is reaso for hope and a way out.

I have been to State College. The pastures and the farms are nice but it doesn’t look remotely like Camden. It just isn’t a good fit for Fran and what his priorities are.

He might leave Syracuse someday for a place like Rutgers or Maryland or Michigan but I don’t think he goes to Penn State. It is a great job but it isn’t what Fran is looking for.
