LSU Swamp Thread

Some really bad hires are going to be made this offseason.
To many "elite" jobs will be open and no where near the level of coach needed to go around.
...and too many schools will be included over-values buyouts in coaches contracts in a few years, which will become known as Round II, Obscene Coach Buyouts ...

Yep they will all be looking for splash hires instead of the right fit. Scott Woodward will be interesting at LSU, what horrible contract will he dole out next?

don't forget the dancing and killing a kid

The kid killing goes with him when he takes a job back up north or out west.

Unfortunately, he won't be saying "ma whole fammmiluh is happy to be here"

Fact is there isn’t really any proven hires any program can make. No one has really proven themselves in the new college football era. The ADs especially at LSU, Florida, and Penn State are in an awful position. Likely going to be forced to make a hire for appeasement and not the actual best hire because even the best hire would likely be unproven. I personally like the positioning we are in right now long term which includes keeping Fran and in the ACC. I actually feel like the future of the ACC lately is more optimistic.

Even more fun, Franklin, Kelly, and others will likely just move to peer programs. Not good enough for LSU and PSU, but Florida, UCLA, Virginia Tech, love them. Crazy.

Maybe more NFL coordinators will decide to become head coaches with big buyouts instead. Joe Brady, etc. You get a raise, you get a big enough buyout... why not? You can always go back to being OC in the NFL again if you fail. In the NFL you can get canned easily after 1 year. Few college programs have ADs who can do that--UCLA is the only firing in Year 2. I could see LSU bring him back if PSU does not want him. I am sure that there are many others.

Nixon is likely gone. There will be a good opening for him somewhere... NFL OC... P4 head coach... certainly a G5 head coach at some place better than Temple.

I still think the way to go is most qualified alumnus and spend money on Coordinators.

For example for LSU shouldn't your #1 target be the Detroit Lions DC? He is young and rising in the coaching ranks. Then get the best OC you can buy. That will be cheaper than giving a long term contract the the big name guy who might not fit (see BK).

That's because there are only like three or four coaches that actually matter. The rest are just banking on timing and luck.

Saban, Meyer, and Harbaugh win everywhere (and the last two cheat). Kirby Smart is pretty close, but he's only ever had to do it at one school, with everything stacked in his favor (see also Dabo Swinney [until recently]. Time will tell on guys like Day, Cignetti, and Freeman.

The rest, just a roll of the dice. A smart AD will hire some up and comer from a lower level school for pennies on the dollar and then "give" that coach what it would cost to hire a Kelly or Franklin to buy players (let's be honest, it isn't NIL).

I don't think Fran Brown is a very good coach (maybe he'll get there - he's green and growing). But he's about the best recruiter there is, which makes up for some of the University's resource deficiencies.

LSU can can Kelly and eat 54 million and we cant can former LSU qb for 500k?
True statement here from someone I’m really close with and close to LSU, Brian Kelly was having an affair with a real estate agent. Big group of boosters found out. Part of the reason he’s getting fired and now they are trying to not pay him because of a “morality” clause built into his contract. Wild times
