In the wildest coincidence, my old law school friend George McPhee - Hobey Baker Award winner (college hockey's version of the Heisman Trophy), New York Rangers legend, Vancouver assistant GM, and Washington Caps GM - was being honored as an inductee into the Syracuse Hockey Hall of Fame.

Literally the last time I saw George was during the 1994 Stanley Cup Finals, when a group of about 8 to 10 ten of our old law school friends went out to dinner on the off night between games at the Garden.

He was always a classy guy, almost like a Victorian gentleman.

Quite a contrast from his playing persona, where he was quite known for mixing it up in the corners. As I recall, he and Rick Tocchet of the Flyers dropped the gloves on quite a few occasions!

But he was like a guy from another era in person.
