While there are other variables for sure in this game, this is 100% true (maybe more than any game in recent history). Against Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State, Tennessee still averaged about 170 yards rushing per game in losses last year. It is Josh Heuppel’s identity and without a proven quarterback, he will try to run it down our throats for sure. We won’t stop them but maybe can contain to some degree. They lead the SEC in rushing and nobody stopped them. (But they were only 27th in FBS in YPC, facing a lot of stacked boxes) In the past, when we faced teams with this mentality, like some BC teams, it it did not matter if we put eight in the box, we could not stop them. That is the fear for this game. However, we have more size on our defensive line than ever to hopefully slow them down. We will need all 7 DTs for sure. Robinson needs to earn his money here. Make the QB beat us, hold them under 200 rushing and don’t turn the ball over. Hold them under 28 points. Tennessee only scored more than 28 two times in the SEC last year. Once against Vandy and once against Mississippi State, and I would expect them not to be as effective in game 1 with all the new faces.
