The point is who started the silly broadcaster back and forth this year between the Jays/Yanks, where one team's broadcaster (via whatever platform) takes cheap shots against the other team? That was Michael Kay and his run differential chat and Jays not really being a first place team. Campbell's broom bit was silly, but then Kay's response was more personal and "victim" based. I'm sure that rubbed some of the Sporsnet team the wrong way, especially Martinez for Campbell (2 cancer survivors). I'm sure that has lingered all year, and once Buck got going on that little rant, that "inspired" him to go full r------ (sorry for the un-PC comment but it sums it up). Tensions have always been high because of the repeated passive (or not so passive) cheating accusations that Kay has taken at the Jays over the years. It's all a bit dumb, because its games between the broadcasters. But the start of this bs is Michael Kay. I don't really have an issue with this Yanks team though. As far as Buck. Is Buck a Homer right now. Clearly. He will take shots against the Jays at times, like a fan, and can be pretty biting at times. But since he came back from cancer treatment this summer, he just doesn't really give a Bleep about being objective and is overly optimistic about the team this year -- much more optimistic than me, and I tend not to be much of a pessimist compared to other hard core fans. I don't think its as a corporate mouthpiece either. He is just a real homer right now. Its clear he loves the Jays, and doesn't have a filter. As far as the comment. There was a clear lane for Buck to take, and he stupidly decided not to use it. The one advantage the Jays have is they are a far better team defensively, better team at the fundamental elements, and make less dumb mistakes - especially say around August. He could have went there, and said that while the Yanks have great talent, and are still a good team, they struggle in the those elements and it may hold them back. That would have been a reasonable comment against the Yanks. Not the "Yanks are a bad team" rant.
