Seems like the Mets are committed to doing a full rebuild... I'm actually okay with that. That core gave the Nimmo, Alonso, McNeil, Lindor core solid 4 years and they got maybe 3 half seasons of elite baseball out of it (first half of 2025 2nd half of 2024, first half of 2022) and one magical playoff run where they caught fire but were dominated by the Dodgers. The rest of that time was mediocre, gutless heartless play combined with not one, but two epic collapses. And BTW when the team was playing well it was because the pitching was elite... the line up was never better than very very inconsistent with lots of takes of pitches down the middle. I hope Lindor is gone as well because he seems like he is a part of the rot. The Mets were never gonna beat the Dodgers with that core and I suspect none of those guys will sniff a World Series ring. My trepidation and frustration isn't that they are blowing up the core... it's that Stearns has yet to layout what his plan is. If it's "we're going to tear it apart and go with the kids and get out of these terrible contracts which won't age well" then be brave enough to say that. Stop this nonsense of "cohen's money gives us a huge advantage" and then do nothing with it (Soto being the exception obv). Right now it seems like the Mets have no plan... they are just floating along while their old core signs with other teams. Stearns doesn't seem to want to overpay for good talent whether it's through free agent dollars or prospects via trades. Cool.. then what exactly is the plan to beat the Braves and Phillies, much less the Dodgers and the Padres and the Cubs and all the other teams in the NL who are getting better? The one player I will miss is Pete... but there is no way he is worth 5 years $155mm+. I'm glad he got his money, but good luck to the Orioles with that horrible contract.
