This does sort of feel like the 2021 season. SU had a majority of their players back from a season where they were 5-0 and finished the shortened season ranked #1. SU didn't have a ton of playing time to offer, and it felt like other teams (Maryland for one) loaded up on the portal and passed SU by. It's more complicated than just that (face-off rule changes really messed with Jacob Phaup), but it does feel like history repeating itself with Maryland again loading up again in the portal. Feels like SU is a victim of their own success in a way.

I guess the big question is if the staff decides to move Thomson back to midfield. He's not going to dodge like English, but he can replicate his offensive numbers. I think the big question is depth - the seniors will have to score a ton but someone else needs to emerge. Lots of pressure on Anderson.

This seems to be a supply/demand issue. Looking at who was in the portal, there was really only one other player who seemed high level enough to pursue (Trey Fleece). He's from Maryland and went to UMBC so I guess it's not super surprising he ended up at Maryland. I certainly wish they grabbed someone else here, but there wasn't a lot to choose from.
