Truly disappointing news about Stankavage - his post makes it seem like UNC was always the favorite. 3 5* attackmen in this class almost assuredly means Holbrough will be elsewhere (right . . . right???). That's 5 IL 5* players to UNC this year so far, nearly doubling Cuse's recruiting at that level for the preceeding three classes combined. However . . . the sky is not falling. Plenty of talented recruits out there and Cuse does have the top goalie in the class (and on some sites the number 1 overall player). But national championships aren't won on the recruiting trail. As pointed out previously, top classes (especially at UNC and Duke) have not materialized into championships recently, though that could always change. Some of these guys just have their top schools, and when given a choice, they're going to take it regardless of what the depth chart ahead of them looks like. I can comment all day about it but can't fault a high schooler for choosing their dream college. For this class, Syracuse does need some juice at the attack position, and I'm sure the staff is trying. Still 4 uncommitted IL 5*s left (although it seems like they might not be in the running for many of them) and a few high 4*s. When this class steps on campus, Cuse will have 3 4*s, 1 3*, and 1 unranked player at the attack position ahead of them. Compare that to the teams who haven't really made a splash at attack yet in this class: Duke (5 5*s and 3 4*s), MD (2 5*s, 5 4*s, and 1 unranked), and UVA (5 5*s and 3 4*s). Cuse's depth at the position most similarly resembles Hopkins and Penn St. This isn't to complain about the recruiting - just to point out that the path to playing time is wide open. You'd hope that gives them a leg up with some of the remaining uncommitted attackmen, but we shall see.
