Got busy this weekend and just now getting time to sit down and write this

1- Before Dungey got hurt, the offense was rolling. This kid does not look like a true freshman and its hard not to be extremely excited about this kid. He just makes plays, hard to believe this kid was playing high school just last year. The future is bright. That was an absolutely vicious shot he took the other day and I hope that it isn't one that stunts his growth. Their have been many big hits in history which have changed the way players play in the future, similar to pitchers who struggle coming back from catching a line drive back at them. I believe with dungy and at home we would have a legitimate shot to beat LSU, not that it would deffinetly happen but we would have a shot. In college football thats all you can ask for, but with that injury I say you sit him out. Let him take this week and the bye week to get back into the flow of things and feel 100% for the USF game because in my opinion that game is much more important. That is a game we should in all intensive purposes be favored in and win. I think this year, building off of recruiting and trying to change the perception of Syracuse football it is paramount for us to make a bowl game and have a respectful record and that starts with winning the game we are supposed to win and then later winning the games we are not. The last thing I want is for dungey to come back early when he is not ready and get either re-injured or killed back their to where it makes him gun shy. The kid is special and hasn't blinked yet, I want that to be the way he continues to play in the future and this game could possibly prevent that from happening if he comes back to soon.

2- The offense, without diving into specific play calls or the play calling in general, it is without question much more fundamentally sound then the previous two years. wide receivers are blocking and sealing the edge, players are doing their jobs on offense. It is so nice to see players getting out and blocking then watching them watch their man run by to make the tackle. This also allows the offense to be much more effective. When Mcdonald was OC the players did not do their job on a consistent basis and many things were done very lazily. Their was no accountability by anyone and everything looked like it was performed half-assed. You can tell these players are carrying out their assignments to the best of their abilities and nothing is half-assed anymore.

3- The defense is scaring me. Yes in the end they did enough to win, but without taking much of the second half into account d/t the lack of offense and the time of possession difference (I assume our guys were gassed), CMU were able to move the ball very effectively against us. They had 230 yards in the first half and then the first drive after halftime (which i will include because our D should have been rested after a 15 min halftime) they drove 94 yards for a TD. That will not get it done in the next several games. What gives me hope is we have a lot of young guys and new starters, hopefully they are able to get it figured out and improve on blown assignments before we get into the meat of our schedule. Thats two weeks in a row the opposition has been able to move the ball effectively and these are some of the weaker opponents on the schedule.

Small samples, but the Lester offense, with Dungey, and with Ishmael drawing attention, works against the likes of RI and Wake. And, without Dungey, the new offense is a lot worse than what we had last season with Hunt. At least, if CM is the measuring stick.
