I think that SU has been recruiting DC2 for three years. (+ or - a few months) When was the last time that SU actively persued a high school kid that long? There have been several who gave verbal commitments theri Soph year, but I can't recall SU spent so much time trying to get one kid. My only thought is I hope he is worth it. I have had my questions on him (too heavy) and he has dropped in the rankings since he first burst on the scene.

I think Waiters committed to SU before he started 9th grade.

I think we were recruiting Forth for a really long time. or maybe it just seemed that way...

I'm not sure if that was the case but he did commit really early, as did Flynn but the point is that once they committed, I would think the recruiting effort is much more relaxed than going after and still having to compete for a highly rate hs kid. As highly rate as DC2 is/was, I imagine that a lot more work went into his recuritment than those who verbaled early. Being local certainly helped but it still was a lot of effort.

I believe both DC2 and Waters mentioned that SU was on him since middle school

youre correct, most articles have said we were looking at him since" he was a skinny tall 7th grader"

waiters committed i believe before the start of his freshman year

i also believe we were on both josh and dayshawn wright from the time they were freshmen in high school

i think andrey blatche we were also watching over the course of 4 years

The staff watches kids as early as 7th grade. I remember going to the SU basketball camp and Stephon Marbury was there and was being heavily recruited. I was either in going into my junior or senior year and Marbury in 4 years younger than me. If i remember correctly, as a 7th grader, he was playing with the juniors and seniors at the camp and playing well. If the staff gets wind of a young talent, they get in early but we generally don't hear about it until 9-10 grade or later.

yea I would imagine they are constantly doing this with recruits each and every year

If memory serves, we were on Telfair about that early also. I don't know how serious we were toward the end of his high school career, but we started before he got to Lincoln.

It's not uncommon for SU to start recruiting kids 3-4 years out. As to how hard they go after those kids, that's a different question. Pretty much all of the top programs are actively tracking 8th graders.

I remember that Ralph Sampson was being recruited in 6th or 7th grade. Of course, he was already 6'8".

We also used to hear rumblings that DeShaun Williams had twin brothers who we were tracking from like 6th grade. After his abrupt departure in 2002, I never heard another thing about them.

Need I mention MM ... who was there as invited guest? Zach Radzky ... just entering high school this year and from the various "sources" there have been a ton of college coaches looking at him already.

I find it hard to believe SU wasn't looking at guys like Rautins, Triche 2.0 for quite some time.

I would imagine someone like JB or Bernie probably got a quick highlight or pictures sent to them at the least and actually cared.

Wasn't there a 14 year old that was at MM? Radz or something?
