The saddest part of this moment is I am most worried about the fan turnout. Because I think Dino uses that as a barameter for the support level of this program which is VERY important.

I think the bigger worry is if the turnout is pretty decent, what is the impact if we get smoked. That could have a long lasting impact on the casual fan when the next time this scenario pops up. I'm not saying it should or shouldn't but we know the casual fan doesn't pay attention to depth, rebuilding a program, etc. They only think they wasted a night at the dome and won't do that again for awhile. Sucks but true. I know "fans" who think this same way.

I recall us destroying Miami in 97 and 98 to ascend into BCS games. P won some games when we needed them most. The issue of the great 90s teams was when they lost when we expected it least.

I’m assuming vpi and Miami are 98, so yeah, if you want to count them fine, But we were ‘established’ and my point is those games are moot because of the Tennessee and NC St failing efforts.

Remember Texas, but not the scenario .and Clemson and ND are just wins in lost seasons...blind squirell rule. Could probably dump Auburn there too.

Maybe "flippant" wasn't the best word to use. Maybe just dismissive. It seems you're taking any discussion of ED as a personal attack. I don't think there's anyone on the board who isn't appreciative of ED. ED, almost by himself has made SU football exciting the last few years. Without ED there's no highlights of SU football on ESPN, etc. He's made the program exciting to watch and given non SU people a reason to talk about us at different times.

But there's also nothing disrespectful in SU fans talking about the merits of one QB starting over another. Obviously it's a message board so you're more than entitled to your opinion too but you're clearly doing it in a particular way.

Your post is exactly right on. I’m sure I did take it personal. In my opinion the merits for Devito are not there yet to override what Ed has done for us and what he has gone through. The stats kind of show that. This is nothing to take away from Tommy because he is orange too.
