Yesterday, as we've seen just about every week, SU was more talented at the QB position (obviously Lamar Jackson is special). Dungey nearly accounted for 500 yards himself- running and passing combined. Sure he makes mistakes (every college QB I've ever seen has made the same mistakes), but overall he manages a good game, he is quick between the ears and with his feet, and he has the ability make plays which he does frequently and has been doing frequently since his first appearance in his first game at SU as a true freshman QB. As for the Orange D, they held BC to 287 total yards which is below their season average of 316, and once again they kept big plays on the down-low only giving up one long TD run while also forcing a crucial interception to kill a BC drive down near the SU goal line---not too shabby considering BC was coming off of a bye week and playing at home. I knew this D had enough horses to play much better and it was only a matter of time until the players started to figure out the new system. I'm not saying they will be this good against some of remaining competition, but I like their chances to reduce the big plays and to make more stops. And now it's on to the bye week and then on to Clemson. The last time I checked with my family in Clemson they were happy grape-eaters. Go Cuse!! If you like Northeast football I guess you had to like Penn State upsetting OSU in Happy Valley. The Nittany Lions have a new OC from Fordham, a new QB this year, and they have their scholarships this year so the slow-moving rebuild is now in full swing. They lost a close one to Pitt (also pretty good this season) and they lost big in the Big House, but otherwise they continue to improve and are beginning to look good. B1G depth is fun to watch. Bama is in a class by itself nationally right now, but LSU is coming. The SEC is still good obviously but not as good as last season. Just don't say that to an SEC fan. They really care a lot. Out west the USC Trojans are slowly improving, and I am very excited to see them face-off with the Washington Huskies, and for that matter, the Utah match-up with U-Dub will likely be even better. What if Clemson wins out but continues to look like they did against NC State (the Tigers should have lost that game at home, and then 7 days later the Cards smashed NC State) and Petrino's bunch continues to play all-world, could we see a situation where the committee actually ranks Louisville above Clemson? That seems highly unlikely, of course, but right now it also feels somewhat possible. The Big12 is simply hard to describe. So, we've tasted some chaotic happenings, and I expect much more.
