Assembled this information during some unintended downtime. What message am I sending with this data? None. Simply thought it was interesting. It’s a comparison on Final 4 appearances & beyond for the last 44 years. 44? Just a coincidence, 1975 was when I started following Syracuse basketball. I was curious what the metric would show as far as Syracuse standing amongst other top programs. Next four posts will show the top-15 in four categories. Final 4 appearance, title game appearance, championship, and cumulative. Do with the info what you will.

This tells me UConn and Villanova finish when they get there.

That is the difference.

7- Big East
7- ACC
3-SEC
1-Big XII
1-American
Big Ten drought continues.

I broke down all four categories to find programs that were listed in top-10 in each.

Six teams. Predictable

Duke
UNC
Kentucky
Kansas
Louisville
UCLA

Interesting thought based on data, shows just how very close Syracuse was to making the first group of six. If Hakim Warrick is on the base line in 1987, perhaps there’s one more championship. Suppose AO is not injured in 2010, and there is another title game appearance (not even a win). I realize these are two big ‘ifs’, but it would put Syracuse in the top 10 in all four of my lists.

I was just thinking after the game last night that if you had told me after the 2003 championship game that Big East Schools would win 5 out of the next 15 championships, there's no way I would have allocated 3 to UConn and 2 to Villanova.

Meh. Cuts both ways.

We were one Cipolla jumper away from losing to Georgia.

The Game vs Gonzaga came down to the last possession.

If Gmac "only" makes 5 threes we go into OT and who knows.

Do you really think a 4 year old Hakim Warrick would've helped in 87? Not sure about his eligibility at that point either. ;-)
