14:06 - 8 yard punt, plus a 5 yard illegal formation penalty give Rutgers the ball on our own 26. In a miracle the defense holds and they miss the FG.

10:28 - On the very first play after we get the ball back after that defensive stand, (and lucky miss ...), DeVito is sacked and fumbles on our own 20. Defense holds them AGAIN to only a FG.

After Rutgers FG gives them a 2 score lead with 8:23 to go.

Tommy runs for no gain, and misses on 2 passes. 3 and out.

7:16 - Down 2 scores - at the Rutgers 41 - he punts. Game over.

We only got 1 more possession. Coaching at its finest.

Burn it all down right now. And after the way Wildhack handled the womens hoop fiasco, who has confidence in him picking the next "Right Guy"?

My question is what the heck was Dino thinking putting a walk on lacrosse player (Colby Barker) into the game for the most critical punt of the game?
He switched punters there? I didn’t notice at the game.

In his postgame, Dino said that he wanted to use Colby for a different kind of punt but that he didn’t execute it very well (obviously!). Maybe a punting style similar to the one used by Rutgers. I don’t know why they needed that though

It was a well executed lacrosse style punt.

Said the same thing. Made no sense at all. Critical point in the game. Just didn’t compute in anyway
That pretty much sums up Dino’s in game decision making as a head coach at SU. 9 out of 10 times it’s the wrong decision. He needs to do the George Castanza’s. Whatever he thinks should be done do the opposite.

I dont want JW hiring our next coach for Fb or bball for that matter, I think he's done a terrible job so far, he got off a sinking ship and lets not allow him to sink ours. Overall I've been really unimpressed with the job he's done.

Yea he referred to him as there rugby style kicker

Yep Dino saw Rutgers killing us with those punts and instead of adjusting to that he decides hey we should do that too.

I tried explaining the random punt player change to a friend of mine and it simply didn’t compute.

It’s so ridiculous that anybody who didn’t watch the game hasn’t any idea what I’m saying.

“Oh, so your punter got hurt?”

…”No, we just tried a different punter”

“You have two punters?”

…”No, he was the backup punter”

“So.. your punter was hurt then?”

….”No.”

On the radio after the game he called him “our rugby style guy”

Which is all just bravado BS anyway… It’s working for Rutgers so we’re gonna show you we can do it too.

Williams was doing fine, hit some bombs and continued to show strong placement. Do. What. You’re. Good. At.

Perfect place to practice something new. Still makes no sense and luckily never will. Game is in hand, ball is in a bad spot, this is where he chooses to take a risk. We don’t take any risks - like throwing to a TE nowadays would really surprise everyone, or trying to win the game at the end instead of punting. But no, the risk we take is putting in a guy to punt with no experience backed up. It.just.makes.no.sense.

Is he trying to get fired and wildhack just hasn’t picked up on it. How can you coach this poorly, this isn’t new either.

A different style of punt it certainly was. One of the all time worst punts I’ve seen above the pop Warner level
I recall Landetta whiffing on one vs the Bears but that was wind related .. this was in freakin doors

I feel pretty bad for the lax punter. He was put in very difficult situation and now he has to wear the results. I'm sure he feels absolutely horrible, and maybe even blames himself for the loss.

Yes, he signed on to play football and knew what he was getting into, I assume. But that was a very difficult first situation to be thrust into. A head-scratching move, for sure.

He said he was in to execute a special punt...maybe a Rugby kick?

I see a ton of these Rugby guys doing great...teams actually recruit 25 year old men from Australia and New Zealand to do this...

Yes the kid rolled to his right When he went to punt. just shanked it. Terrible call And decision. Our punter was doing fine. Some hang time issues the first couple punts but then that last one was gorgeous.

Gotta agree. Situational awareness is horrible and his going off the rails negating the previously called offsetting penalties and giving them a 1st and half the distance almost had me doing my Redd Foxx Elizabeth heart attack walk.
