We are great at compiling yards but really poor at taking shots and playing aggressive with a lead. The urgency to step on someone's throat isnt there. We protected a 20-13 lead for most of the 4th quarter. The playing fast thing went away with that 7 point lead. We refused to run the ball in the first half and yes, we ran it decently in the second half which was great to see. That said, we didnt aggressively go for that 2 td lead. We actually were working on the clock with 14:00 in the 4th. Frustrating bc folks, we are better than Pitt all day.

Alot of GREAT tid bits:

1. The Dline has been great, specifically the interior line with Slayton and mount McKinley, we have held down the los.

2. I have bad mouthed the T2, but love the way all 11 guys are flying to the ball. More edge pressure and less guys running free and these young guys will play with most teams.

3. Still too many penalties and dumb mistakes, especially 2 substitution fouls outta time outs!!

4. The oline is improving in both run and pass blocking.

5. Butler and pierce are weapons.

6. We ARE FINALLY USING THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD, notice the open real estate anyone? Wrs, pierce, and that wheel route to strick that would have been a td if ED stepped into the throw.

Per ESPN's play-by-play, SU went TD-FG-TD-Downs (15 plays) in four second-half possessions. And we never had the ball leading 20-13. We got it after the 56-yard FG made it 20-16. We answered with a TD via a 35-yard pass to go up 27-16. So not buying your initial point about playing aggressively.

I don't know where you get protect a 7 point lead the whole 4th quarter. We scored a TD right after getting the 7 point lead. The only other drive was the shuffle pass on 4th down. And why not use click that last drive? We were moving right down the field and gained 62 yards that drive.

As far as the middle of the field, many of Phillips catches are over the middle.

that was the best we threw the ball down the middle all year.. It also was against one of the worst passing Ds we will see all year.

Never let facts get in the way of a good rant.

We scored a TD on a 35 yard pass with 11 minutes to go and went up 27-16.

After Pitt scored we were snapping the ball within 8-10 seconds.

You should watch the 2nd half again.

I’ll go back and read the complimentary part of the post but that intro paragraph doesn’t match the game I watched.

I agree with a lot of your points and I was a bit surprised they ran as much as they did on the last drive but it worked and took off a heck of a lot of time. Dungey becomes a more frequent second RB in their run the clock down offense. Surprised that Riley didn't get many snaps but Butlers was playing so well it was hard to take him out.

Can any o-line experts check out Adams at rg in 4th quarter. I watched him exclusively and all the talk about being in shape must not have included him cause he didn't do s---. A big man like that should get clean movement on the line. Terrible explosion off ball movement and 0 hand punch on pass play no leg drive on run blocking. Even after a long break he looked crappy. No drive or he is too nice but either way he needs to step up or replace him. Someone tell me if I'm wrong cuz if he plays that way at Clemson we are in trouble.

The first half play calling was, to say the least, mysterious. Don't know why they were so hesitant to throw down the middle and glad they realized it in the 2nd half.

The other thing is that they are not getting enough pressure on the QB with just the DL. Maybe that changes when Coleman comes back, but they have to dial up some blitzes or opposing QBs will eat us alive.
