5-Star 2013 PG Prospect Tyler Ennis Interview/Highlights

Is there anyone whos a Cuse lean right now? I admit I dont know a ton about who we're recruiting and what they think of us but I havent heard too much recruiting news lately (not saying this is bad or good or standard operating procedure this early in the process). Seems everyone assumes Noel will go to UK even though its between us and them. I hear alot about Anya and Goodluck but I hear conflicting things about them from people on this board. We're going to need guards badly soon with Waiters going pro this year or next and Triche graduating next year, coupled with NBA potential in MCW. Any big time guards were in the mix with?

Maybe I'm just spoiled with so many people committing to us so early recently.

With it looking like Ennis is out of the mix, here is a prediction/guess:

We go hard after Brantley who has us and 'Ville as his top 2. J. Brantley is an education first guy so I assume we have the edge here. He's a lights out shooter but he's only 5'10" at best...but he also plays on BABC with Noel, Goodluck, and Selden. We bring him in 2013 so we at least have a legitimate PG backup to MCW in his Junior year. Then obviously we have laid the groundwork to bring in Goodluck and/or Noel, who is looking like a bit of long shot right now, the same year.
Then in 2014 we bring in Newton (about 6'2" or 6'3") who either battles with Brantley for the lead guard spot or serves as combo guard backup with Brantley in the event that MCW stays for his final year. And then n 2015 we nab I. Briscoe (who has a sister here starring for the women's team) who I believe is strictly a point guard at his early point.

It's very early yet ... recruiting doesn't really amp up until the end of the season. I think we have good shots at Goodluck and as far as guards go there is Brantley (2013) and Briscoe (2015). I think that the problem sits, for the moment, at the depth of our team. Noone wants to speak up when they have 1, 2, 3 players in front of them... these days they all want to be one-and-dones. That's why Calamari is so attractive ... he has a lot of potential one-and-dones and a very thin bench. Kids see that and know that so-and-so will be gone and they can move right in. Even if Dion and Melo (hope not) leave, for example, Coleman, Baye, Rak are still in the middle with experience. At guard SU still has Triche, MCW, and Cooney to rotate. At the 3 CJ and Grant ... and at the 4 ... RAK and Dirty. We will still be deep ... tough to break into that rotation.

Don't worry and enjoy the ride. You are a fan of one of the elite programs and it will only get better from here. Promise!

I am willing to bet that Anya doesn't come to SU when it's all said and done

I used to fret considerably when I saw that we weren't getting any recruits ... or rather that any of the 5 star recruits weren't even mentioning SU. I don't worry as much (note I said as much) as I have a ton of faith in JB and staff. I think that they have consistently proven that they can recruit and bring in kids that fit our system. We have had teams of Mickey D's and teams of so-called no-names that are consistent winners and bring happiness and light to the dreariness of Syracuse winters ... relax. Enjoy the ride.

Why do you think that Nova, just curious? He is good friends with Grant and plays for an AAU coach who lets his kids decide their fate... A very reassuring trait. I have no reason to believe you are wrong, just interested in your thoughts.

Yes I too agree that these kids nowadays want to be one and done.(whether their good enough or not and despite all the evidence that most are not) However, we are in the recruiting drivers seat. We are choosers and not beggars. Our game is wide open enough to attract the athletes we do, gives the ability to showcase whoever is hot, and the zone particularly this year is playing with man principles so is encouraging more active defense. Our much coddled high school super stars could use a dose of 1)humility and 2)a sense of earning it. To those willing to learn these 2 things, your welcome at SU. Your game will improve, sense of team will improve, you'll get a great educ.,and your "potential"! pro aspirations will not be harmed but will be enhanced.

There's a four-star point guard named JaQuel Richmond for 2014. I just spoke with him yesterday, and Cuse is in his top 5. Full interview coming next week.

This is just my opinion but I truly believe in the end it becomes his parents decision not BJ's. I have heard from several people they want the fast track to the pro's for him like one and done type of thing. I just have a really bad feeling he ends up being in Kentucky blue even if Noels goes there. I hope I am wrong and several people have said he is close with Grant and that should help but I truly believe his parents make his choice when it's signing day. This has nothing to do with his coaches there solid people and would never point there kids in a direction for there benefit.

BleedsOrange44: If your taking ideas for future articles, I would love to read an interview with Fab Melo. Mainly, I am interested to know, when the time comes, how does he anticipate making the decision to go NBA or not.

Being from Brazil and having very little family here, I wonder who he will look to most to help him figure it out. Will it be the Cuse coaching staff? Or will Fab think they are "biased" (like they would want him to stay...even if that's not the case)? Will his former Sagemont HS coach Adam Ross help him? (Prior to being at SU, Ross seemed like he was "looking out for" Fab...helping him make decisions.)

Is his family at home in decent enough financial shape, such that he could stay all 4 years at Syracuse if he wanted? Or do they need the money?

I'm sure Fab would be a bit vague, as all players are when discussing such things, but maybe not. Fab seems to be pretty open & honest. And with his family in Brazil, it is a unique circumstance that I would be interested in.

Thanks!

He's already been a thread ... yesterday I believe

Believe me, I'd love to interview Fab or other players. But it's not that simple. You have to go through Syracuse Athletics and get permission by several people before you can get close to the players. Players aren't allowed to talk to me unless the University approves it and sets it up. I have efforted such interviews and will continue to do so, but wanted to let you know the process so if you don't see it, don't think I'm not attempting to do those type of things.
