OK so time for review: 5) I'm worried. KJo did not look "back" but rather looked as ailing as ever. He seemed lost out there and for a 5 minute stretch I forgot he was on the court. This could be bad news. 4) I want to be happy about the front-court offense because BMK played well and Melo played extremely well ... but the guards never dumped the ball into the low post to give any of the bigs a chance to back their player down. We will need some sort of that inside out game to keep defenses honest, saw none of that last night. 3) Not many 3-pt shots taken but nothing looked promising other than Cooney who likely won't get much time as it is. Joseph hit one 3 but looked 'off' on his others. Scoop hit a long 2 that suggests he is about the same as last year. Triche looked 'off' at everything last night. Dion's form is still suspect. The only bright spot was just how smooth and natural CJ Fair's shot looked. Hope to see him make that leap to providing some range. 2) Was less than impressed with Rak. He was very much the freshman out there, didn't fight for rebounds much and when he did he timed them all wrong. He had a few nice blocks but all were continuations of fouls (which there were WAY WAY too many of, God I can't wait to never see Jim Burr ever again). Rak looks like he needs to be locked in the weight room for 3 months eating nothing but steak and eggs. He also needs to be MUCH more physical in space rather than trying to use athleticism. He needs a lot of work. 1) CJ looked great in the few opportunities he had. He is the king of the easy put-back and his stroke looked excellent. His 2 free throws looked picture perfect and his 3-pter looked like he was a 40%+ shooter. Really excited to see if he takes more of an aggressive approach on offense. Dion also looked fantastic IMO. He really looked confident and emotional (in a good way). His shot is still definitely strange and will be interesting to see what kind of % shooter he becomes ... though his foul shots looked great and he will probably make a living at the line this year. Very happy with these two. Southerland, however, looked awful... there's no sugar-coating it. All in all ... a lot to be excited about in Melo, Fair and Waiters ... not so much in Rak, KJo and MCW (yet).
