FSU and Maryland voted against it.

SU and Pitt voted for it. Swofford expected a battle, so he padded the options by letting two yes votes participate.

Maryland and Big10
FSU and Big12

Shows you who was probably having some under the table talks behind the ACC's back

Ok. What's the point?

what Stern said

they may think they have back-up elsewhere to come up with money to bounce if the time comes

So you think FSU and MD were/are considering leaving?

Doesn't matter now. 50 mill is in effect pronto.

at one time, I am sure members of their respective BoT considered it

not the presidents (or AD's) mind you, but I am sure they had prominent boosters / board members beating the drum

They probably wished to keep their options open. In reality, each school chose to stay in spite of the increase in the exit fee. They voted no in the ACC vote but actually voted yes via their feet (they didn't leave!). I do think it is a monetary/fallback issue, though, as each would have preferred a lower exit fee just in case they get the magic invite. Truth be told, if either or both get the invite they dream of and they choose to go, the exit fee will be paid.

I would just like to take this opportunity to pose the question: if FSU and Maryland couldn't "block" a massive jump in the exit fee, please explain to me how BC "blocked" UConn's invite?

This question is not posed to Bees, but to the world.

The world of the insane.

The only way BC could have blocked UConn was to get others to agree with them.

Exactly. So if the ACC wanted UConn in over Pitt, they'd be in.

Curious on votes like this if they required a super-majority (67% or 75%), or just a simple majority? Letting SU and Pitt vote tells me that it was probably the former.

Not that I think that SU or Pitt would vote against it, but it seems they would have to be allowed to vote on something as big as increasing the exit fee to $50 million since it wasn't part of the deal they signed on for.

Needed nine yes votes to pass. Cuse and Pitt are not voting members yet.

I'll believe these voting leaks when they are confirmed by Swofford, the school presidents and legitimate journalists (i.e. not WVU "insiders:). So far it has been reported that the vote was 8-4 to invite Notre Dame with FSU, Clemson, VT and NCST voting in the negative and SU and Pitt voting in the affirmative. (If that were true wouldn't the vote have been 10-4?) Then this news came out about FSU and MD voting against the $50M exit fee. Then it became FSU and MD against AND SU and Pitt voting vote.

These stories, even if they contain elements of truth, have been twisted and re-cast by WVU/Big 12 fan boys as "proof" that the ACC is still unstable and ready to be picked apart by the B12 and SEC. Why give these delusional any extra press? Fact is, SU is in a very good -- and now very secure -- place.

At this point, who voted for what is a secondary issue. The exit fee is in place...and ND is in conference.

If anyone has any grand design of leaving now...they can pony up $50m and hit the bricks.

"Syracuse is not yet a voting member in the ACC, but ACC officials did seek Gross' input prior to admitting Notre Dame."

Correct. Needed 9 of 12 got 10.

It's easy to assume that b/c FSU and Maryland voted no on the exit fee they are pissed off now and had other intentions to leave but I can also understand why they voted no. You always want an out and not be stuck in a contract when you don't know what'll happen long term.

Maybe i'm naive but I believe what the FSU pres said about it and can totally buy that.

all that is a crock of because syracuse and pittsburgh are not voting members and the acc need 9 yes votes.

(If true they voted or had someone vote as their proxy) I think it would lessen the chance of Pitt and Syracuse trying to get out of paying the $50M down the road...you know when we try to join the MAC with Rutgers.
