Yesterday I was able to watch a lot of the action, and I wasn't disappointed. The ACC has shown up pretty well so far. David Cutcliffe had Duke ready to play, and they nearly pulled out the W. I missed the NC State victory over UCF, but NC State finished the season winning 4 out of 5 games including the bowl game. Their QB reminds me a little bit of T-Hunt. He's big, and he has a knack for eluding pressure and running the ball. NC State against SU scored one TD on offense and 3 field goals. SU losing the turnover battle 3-0 including a pick-6 was the difference in the game. Just a reminder to me of how well SU's defense played most of the season under difficult circumstances, especially with the problems on offense. NC State came to the Dome off of a bye week, and SU was playing after it's loss on the road to Clemson. I was worried that NC State would blow out SU, so the outcome while frustrating was something I could understand. The board, however, cratered, fell off the grid into one of the deeper, more manic, doom and gloom phases I can recall. Penn State reminds me a little of SU this season. PSU plays really good defense and often struggles on offense with a young QB. Yesterday in a great game PSU managed to beat the ever competitive BC in what was very much like a home atmosphere for the Nittany Lions in the Bronx. Penn State (with more scholarships, continuity at the top, and a more experienced QB) is coming. So is USC who won with 51 scholarship players. I can understand why some of these bowl games on Mon and Tues are during the day, but many of us will be unable to watch those games. I'd rather be able to flip channels and see bits of each game at night. But that's my only beef with this system so far. I think it's an upgrade by a country mile.
