So many positives in this game. The O-Line looked night-and-day better. Ohio's right-side edge guy got inside Mang/Servais a play or two, and Vet got driven into the backfield a couple times. But otherwise protection and run-blocking were solid. Big relief to see this unit functioning again. Substitutions in the last series included Ellis (LG), Kauhi (RG) and Bradford (RT). Might have been others, but these guys looked really promising .. big strong ACC-level guys that can move their feet. Defensive secondary continued it's stellar play. Chestnut looked like a veteran out there - exceptional anticipation and cover skills. Good thing he's not fast enough for Rutgirls! Linebackers were vastly improved against the run. Tackling, surging to the ball, play-recognition all looked improved. The two big concerns are: 1) safety looked shaky at times with LaBrosse getting beat to the corner and some confusion in zone coverage with Simmons/Carter; and 2) our D-Line, undersized to begin with, was clearly not at full strength without Williams and Jonathan (injury). The D-Line issues are going to bite us unless we get healthy and make some adjustments. We are thin and undersized to begin with. But losing two starters left us vulnerable on the inside. Roscoe is a decent edge guy on passing downs, but inside he gets pushed all over the field. Harper was just ok. I thought Okechukwu looked stout, and Darton deserves more reps. This continues to be an area of serious concern.
