I know that Bill Parcells said famously that you are what your record says you are.
 
But, I have seen way too many exceptions to the rule to really believe that. Especially when the team is burdened with a very difficult schedule - or one that is more difficult than a previous one or one of a comparable team.  
 
I remember when Bill Mallory came to Indiana University years ago. In his first season he went 0-11. And yet it was clear that the team was far better than it had been the year before under Sam Wyche who had won four games.
 
This year we are playing a very tough OOC schedule. That alone makes this season a tough one - one that may blur our view of the progress that is being made.
 
Given the schedule, if we were to lose say seven games this year, I would not be surprised. But that would not cause me to conclude that we are not getting better, because I think we are getting better.
 
That improvement will likely not be reflected in the record.
