#88 and John Mackey

Loved the half time recognition for John Mackey...but I thought we retired his number 4 years ago, but West wears 88? Do they get around this by saying that Mackey's uniform is retired, not his number?

Just his "jersey'" is retired.

They should just say that Mackey's name is on the Orange Wall of Honor and avoid all the confusion.

I like what Michigan is starting to do, they "retire" a number and the player that's awarded that number wears a patch to commemorate the past player for whom it's retired. Here's #21 for Desmond Howard. Very cool, and I have to think it's something that would be cool for recruiting.
