all doom and gloom we know..

but su scored 17 with dungey and 14 without him.

just ignore the points per minute or lack of yards for 30 min.

look at as we scored 17 with dungey in 20 min and scored 14 with the 2 headed monster in 10 min and the 30 min in between we were just protecting the lead and not really playing offense.

I am surprised that Austin Wilson has been unable to take the job after being with the program for three years.

I gather he just does not run well enough to direct the Lester offense.

Given Lester's comments yesterday, it seems that Zach was always the eventual option after Dungey.

So, lets see how he does with a week of first team preparation.

Watching Wilson, he just doesn't have a feel for the game, and isn't particularly athletic. I know he has a strong arm, but I just don't think he's got enough natural football instinct or awareness. I've been using this analogy all week so I'll stick with it: he's a guy who goes to the gym and does 5-spot shooting drills all day, and can make 80% of his jumpers when he's shooting around. But put him in a pickup game, and he's just lost. Wilson seems like the same kind of guy. Great in drills, terrible in actual game situations.

Very reasonable observation.

So you are saying Wilson = Cooney?
I kid I kid... sort of!

.....Mind blown.

Actually, Cooney has gone off in like 1-2 games. Is Wilson a faux Cooney?

If Wilson doesnt throw the fade to Custis we lose. On the deep IT Wilson had to double clutch because of a jumping lineman. It caused him to throw off balance and he had to throw leaning back. If he could have thrown with a forward motion that was six. The kid can sling it and i hope that they let him throw the ball all over the yard on Saturday as we are not going to beat these guys with the option. They are too fast and too physical. If GT couldnt run the option on ND and they are the best ever at it there is no way we are running it against LSU. Throw the ball 50 times and throw it deep 10

Upper, you actually make a very valid point that seems to be supported by Lester's comments. He admitted he kept it simple calling 9 straight running plays when Mahoney was in. Coaches were intent, it seems, to try to run out the whole second half clock without concern of scoring again. And it almost worked. When OT came, Lester knew he had to open it up and allowed Mahoney to throw and run the option, which he was able to do effectively. I'm not saying we are set and Mahoney will be the next coming of Dungey, but I think with him we have the ability to move the ball. And that's the first step of every offense.

i prefer not to look at it as not really playing offense because i prefer to not think they are that stupid

If this staff plays not to lose, instead of to win again this game's over by the 10:00 min mark of the 2nd. I'm getting really sick of this ultra-conservative crap. It's college and sometime you just need to let it loose and let a kid win a game for you...before OT

Ethan Cole?

Actually, I think we really haven't seen enough of Wilson to judge. But I guess the coaches have. Why did they make him #3 and Mahoney #5?

See, I think we HAVE seen enough of Wilson to know what he is. He's played in 7 games, attempted 58 passes, and has a 1-to-5 TD/INT ratio for his career. I think that's a pretty decent sample size to make a call on his effectiveness at this level.
