We had to visit my dad's grave today with the family on such an important day in Syracuse history. I asked him for a double Orange victory. During the men's game, my mother never gave up and turned on OE's Tiffany styled lamp. That sparked the run and we all couldn't help but feel OE's spirit was in here willing the Cuse to victory. Go Orange!

Especially the Orangewomen. He was a huge fan of everything Orange.

Not sure how I missed this thread. On Sunday morning my wife was taking forever getting ready for church. I opened up my Email and read my saved emails from Dan. Dan always asked about my daughter and was always concerned about her health. We had many long talks about Softball and the Ernie Davis statue!

I remember one time in 2005 I was on a range in 29 Palms Calf. I was training my Marines on the 50 Caliber Machine gun before going to Iraq. Dan calls me out of the blue. He was so exited about something (I don't remember what it was) I was trying to tell him I couldn't talk right now but he was on one of his amassing exited rants. All of a sudden we start shooting the machine guns witch are extremely loud. After about 30 seconds of shooting Dan said "what was that", I said "we are shooting heavy Machine guns". He said "you all most gave me a heart attack" Then he said "I guess your busy I'll call you later" Just a little memorie of Dan that makes me chuckle!

I appreciated that, and it really made me grin! It almost sounds like something out of a TV sitcome, and OE is capable(with your help, then and now!) of teaching us some life wisdom and delivering humor from beyond the grave. I truly hope I'm able to do that, even if it's to fewer people. God bless OE, JHJ, and OO!

OE was the one staff member who ever started an unsolicited, kind PM conversation with me(and Im guessing I'll repeat that again down the line). Rather than delete or banish the post to what may as well be ether, he actually shared his experience with one of my "out there" ideas. That means more to me than most, if any, would understand. He certainly believed in things beyond the easily seen, and I wouldnt be shocked if he, as pure energy, had some effect on the game.

This is weird b/c I never met the man and pretty much just knew him from the OE daily articles and what people who knew him said here ... but yet I thought of him Sunday night after the game. Made me sad to think such a major fan was missing this amazing run. Sounds like he's actively involved, though!

Agreed! ...now with your screen name, what's this next game like for you?

Awesome Capt J!

This next game will be real sweet when we win. UNC's fans are a good group overall, it's not them. Our state elected officials are embarrassing us right now. So sick of it. Am taking it out in my feelings toward UNC (which otherwise is vanilla as far as I am concerned.)

I can't believe how unfair life is that he didn't get to see this amazingly historic day/weekend in SU basketball history. I can't imagine how happy he would have been.

I think sometimes God takes those like OE away from us to force some of us hard headed (nosed?) people to appreciate and reminisce about whey have done for others and to show us what we are to do for others because we were too ignorant or self absorbed to learn the lessons they lived while they were here. It pains us that they are gone, but we know that we have to follow their examples.

OE reminds me of my grandfather - no, he wasn't that much older than me - but my grandfather always helped others, never complained about it, never made a fuss about it and simply moved on to the next person needing help. My grandfather enjoyed life and family and I most certainly have learned more after his death than I ever did while he was with us. OE is the same way, bits of humor, wisdom, caring and just being a friend always come out when there is a mention of OE - and other former posters who have left their mark. Thank you, OE.

"Out there" - that's the very term Dan used to describe one or more of my posts the first time I met him at a tailgate.

What a guy. Very sad that he's not here for this season of great success in so many non-traditional sports.

I am sure he is loving this right now. Wish he could be here to witness it in person. I still remember the first time I met him when he showed up at Liverpool Golf Course during the first round of the Post Standard Tournament because he saw that I posted that I qualified and he wanted to watch me play a couple of holes. The first hole he watched I played awful but ended up making about a 40 footer for par in which he high fived me as I walked off the green.

I took an 79 year-old friend to a women's game a couple (maybe 3? - nah, can't be 3) years ago and sure enough, who comes up to greet me but Dan and Tomcat! When I attended the women's game two weeks ago (with the same friend) to see them go to their first Sweet 16, I thought of Dan. What an Orange heart that man had!

I spent a few hours with Dan when he invited me over to his house to pick up tickets for my kids to go to Midnight Madness. I could have spent ten hours talking to him but I was on the clock. Every time we walk by the Ernie Davis Statue, one of my kids will say, "Dad, there's the statue, your friend made". Somehow, I think Dan knows what happened on Sunday.
