First all teams get injuries. Wasn't Toledo missing like half their team against us? Wasn't Cincy without their star QB? Pitt without its star RB? Did Wake not lose its starting QB? Sure if we were totally healthy we could have won another game or two. But we could have also lost another game or two had our opponents been at full strength. I think injuries definitely played a part in finishing 0-5 but let's not rewrite history here. The D was bad ALL season. Five of our first six games vs 1A opponents we allowed over 400 yards. FIVE of SIX. The only game we didn't was offensively inept RU. Tulane put up 471 yards and 34 points on us!!!! The last five games we allowed over 400 only once. We actually allowed over 50 total ypg less the last five vs the first six D1A games. Rushing did go way up the last half vs the first half but that has to do with a lot of factors and not just injuries. We played from behind, in which your opponents will rush more than pass. We played teams that are more run first in the second half of the season. The first half saw some pass happy teams. Our first half numbers were greatly skewed by RU getting a whopping 5 yards rushing against us. Also we likely were more conscious of the pass since we were giving up 325 yards per game the first six. The fact is the D was bad all year long. We were just as close to losing to Wake, RI, Toledo, and Tulane as we were to beating RU, UConn, and Pitt.
