I just read this post and I am angry and disappointed.
"I'm from Syracuse, not an alum. I also love history.
But I also don't see the value in wanting someone to be a stand in for some ideal from long ago. Let the guy be who he wants to be."
Really! You are missing the point. And, it wasn’t so long ago that Floyd wore that number proudly. The way it’s been handled at SU is poor IMHO. You have backs who wore it, some greater than others, and one the greatest of them all. The #44 is iconic, a drawing card for upcoming recruits. Certainly you have to be judicious in who you award it to but you don’t put it away to gather dust especially when those who wore it are saying “continue the tradition.”
IF Sean Tucker wants to continue that tradition and has the numbers to prove he is a special back and wants it, GIVE IT TO HIM! This board spends enough time criticizing Babers and other coaches they don’t particularly care for almost every day - if not Babers, Boeheim and THAT has become the new tradition here instead of watching a really great back make history on the field for us and a new way to look at Syracuse University Football. What in the hell are they waiting for, a reincarnation of Jim Brown? You have seen how often a back like he comes to SU.
I really think they have to act NOW instead of sitting on their hands waiting – wait for what, until Tucker leaves as a senior or for the NFL? Maybe the deal is, “you want the number, great back, you wear it here through your senior year like Brown did.” I don’t know – it seems like such a simple decision. He, as of today through 6 games, has 9 TDS which ties him for 1st in the country, 791 YDS rushing 2nd and 204 YDS receiving giving him 995 YDS combined, 1st in the country.
So whomever is in charge of it, Wildhack and his group, trustees or the players that are still around that wore it, join up and MAKE A DECISION AND GIVE IT TO HIM IF HE WANTS IT. Give us something positive to talk about, a hope, a wish that we can follow on the field instead of bashing coaches here on the board.
