These are the articles some of us here read in real time as we prayerfully followed Ernie's fight against a very tough blood cancer. Hoping against hope for a positive outcome.

This is the house I grew up in, door on the right led to our flat. At the base of the door on the left is where I spotted the news that Ernie had died. I collapsed on those steps and cried.

I am not old enough to have seen these when they happened but I saw one of the TV bios on Ernie about 10 years ago. It was excellent and enabled me to really understand how special this guy was. There were so many who sang his praises, not just as a football player but as a person. I was truly touched by it.

My parents kept the news from me until somebody at a holiday party said that he was sick and was going to die.
