With some people's sources hinting that the Fab Melo saga isn't over yet, if we win today, we could be faced with his return next week. He would have been eligible, then ineligible, then eligible then ineligible then eligible all in the same semester. That is so bizarre that you wonder if the NCAA will want to take a good look at SU's procedures and might wind up vacating wins.

What if Fab Melo could return and if his presence might give us what we need to win the national championship but then would cause the NCAA to vacate it? Let's say that if he doesn't return, we don't make it out of the regionals. Would you want to win the title and risk having it vacated or "stay clean" and never get to the Final Four?

I seriously doubt he returns now if there's any questions or concerns.

If we brought him back and it was vacated that would be doom for JB and his legacy. It's absolutely not worth the risk.

Plus, I like this teams chances to get to New Orleans anyway.

Wouldn't we look at it like the 1990 Lacrosse title? That didn't doom Roy Simmons legacy. I think we would look at it as our second national title, which still counts to us. It's also interesting that the NCAA has never vacated a naitonal title, (at least in basketball). They've vacated the records of runners up and Final Four teams, but not the title winner. That may just be because they didn't have anything on a title winner but it's such a prominent "revenue" sport one wonders if they only do that when it doesn't seem to matter anyway.

A key point is that we don't know what has gone on in this bizarre saga. We don't know for sure who is to blame or how serious the problem is in terms of damaging reputations.

At the end of the day we still would have won the title and it would effectively prevent any "what if" posts on the board for the next 30 seasons.

Kids been suspended more times times than a circus aerialist. I think JB has said "No Fab" whether eligible or ineligble

I would rather not have Fab back at this point in time, his problems have caused enough turmoil on the team and they need to go with the guys who have done the right things to stay eligible.

Very different circumstances. And that was our 4th championship. 1983, 1988, 1989, 1990.
