Well Its Number #3 SU vs #10 Florida on a Friday night, I am excited to get warmed up at happy hour and yell at a television for 2 hours.

I personally know very little about Florida, I assume they are guard heavy with Boynton and Rosario. But, frankly I have little respect for SEC hoops and expect to run Florida off the court.

What a week to start posting on the board, bad timing, yikes.

Can't wait!!! Watching our current players do what they do is the absolute best distraction from the Fine story.

I believe I heard that Florida leads the nation in 3 pt field goals. If the zone is not active, we could be the ones that is run off the court.

I fully expect this to be the type of game where florida comes out strong with a barrage of 3s and we weather the storm and win the game going away over the last 13 mins. The key is about possessions. If we can dominate the glass to create more possessions we win. If we get too sloppy and let them get easy buckets we lose. The absolutes will be they will score from the perimeter and we should do well getting points in the paint.

Well thats only because they average shooting 28 a game. Here is the breakdown of their games:

13-30
11-22
11-29
12-27
11-25
14-35

Yes they make a lot of shots but they also take a lot of shots. Live by the 3 and die by the 3.

They take a ton, but they also make a ton. 43% from three on the year with 72 makes is nothing to sneeze at.

Looks like they average about 27 or so 3's a game.

What's the over/under on 3's attempted by Fl in this game? I'm gonna put it up around 37.

If we can generate runouts from a lot of long rebounds we'll be in great shape. If they hit 3's and we have to get our points in the half court, we could have a problem. Our guards will have to have really nice games in all aspects including rebounding.

They're certainly an interesting team. The roster reminds me of the 05-06 Nova team (though not quite as good)... with Ray, Foye, Nardi and Lowry. That team would often play 4 guards because their guards rebounded so well. I doubt we'll see that from Florida. I haven't watched any of their games this year, but I assume they play 3 guards quite often.

If we can get them in foul trouble (particularly Young), then that's a huge advantage for us. With the loss of Murphy, they aren't very deep and I expect us to dominate the glass, especially on the offensive end. The guards will have to beat their men off the dribble. Taking it inside against this team seems like the best approach.

Defensively, we've got to extend the zone. It will be interesting to see if Boeheim employs the m2m or press that we've seen recently, but I doubt he will unless things aren't going well. Get out on their shooters as much as possible and hope they miss. I don't think Young will have a particularly good game against us because of all the bodies we can throw at him and the increased defensive presence of Fab. Boynton worries me the most, but I think our guards can go toe-to-toe with theirs. It will be interesting to see how Beal handles our defense as a freshman... he's having a good rookie campaign so far, but no matter how well they play, freshman just don't scare me that much.

This will be the most exciting game of the season to date. I can't wait to see our team flex their muscles against top 10 competition and I've got a good feeling the Dome will be rocking come Friday night. LGO!!

You will see, essentially, a 3 guard offense/defense with Boynton, Rosario, and Beal (6'3, 6'2, 6'3). They will take a minimum of 30 3's and make around 40- 47% of them. They are a very good 3 pt shooting team. Murphy, their primary Center is out for the season ... his back-up Young (6'9) is very good but is, hopefully, susceptible to foul trouble. Their bench is almost nonexistent ... which means someone will come off it against SU and be in the zone. Syracuse will have to play tight M2M or extend their zone to limit the 3 pt shots. Forget the press ... they play 3 guards. They are weak underneath especially if we can keep pounding Young with Fab, Baye, and Rak.

Don't know what the spread is but Iam going to guess SU -5 at the Dome.

We shot 43% (13 for 30) on Tuesday, who's to say we can't hold our own from the arc?

As stated, I can't see our press deployed against a team with an elite back court.

One major difference in our favor concerning Fl being like Nova a few years back is coaching. Wright can pick apart our zone when he has the right pieces. Donovan is a fine coach, but his skill against the zone can't be anywhere near Wright's level.

Should be an interesting match up, the zone will definitely be extended, wonder if anyone on Florida can consistently hit from the top of the key. With the guards pushed out, the top of the key should be a little more open than usual.

Hopefully we can wear them down some with our depth. Usually the opposing team's shooting percentage tends to drop off as the game progresses as we extend the zone to get out on the hot shooter, and their legs get tired.

Not only the law of averages but the law of "James does not seem to be able to shoot 3's against the man" law but he did jack the average 3/6. Mookie got 1 and Dion got 1 and I think Triche went for 4/7 and KJo got 3 and CJ had 1. Pretty good distribution but, again, that was against a not very challenging zone. We are going to see M2M on Friday.

law of averages

Against the only quality team they've played, Ohio state, Florida was 11 for 22 from 3. Ouch. I can understand that against a Stetson but that's some pretty dern good shooting. The zone will be stretched.

The media down here in Florida are touting this as Florida's best team since the NC teams. Their guards are very experienced and can shoot and penetrate. SU zone has to be active out to the shooters and must limit 2nd chance points as much as possible. There will be a lot of long rebounds from all of those threes. If SU plays defense hard out of the gate and rebounds, they will win. If they wait till they are down 9 or 10 points to try and ramp up the defense like some other games this year, this could be the team they will be unable to catch. Florida has more firepower than anyone else we have met so far.

Didn't Florida have some forward who was injured ealier? Is he going to be playing or what?

Murphy was their primary center and he is out for the year ... but only averaged 4 r/g. Their main man underneath is Patric Young averging 7.7 r/g ... they still have Will Yequette who backs up Murphy at 6.8 r/g in 19 m/g. Get Yequette and/or Young in trouble and they have a very thin bench

Thanks. Definately then need to go inside early and often to get their remaining center in foul trouble. Should be able to use our depth to our advantage.

Thats my biggest concern about this game. PLEASE JB, DONT WAIT TILL FLORIDA KNOCKS DOWN THEIR FIRST 5 THREE'S TO EXTEND THE ZONE!!! We already know going into the game what florida's strengths are, their guards and 3 point shooting. Start the game with the extended zone, dont wait till we're down 25-10 halfway through the 1st half. This isnt the game to dare them to make 3's and if they do then make the adjustment. Make the adjustment at the start of the game.

pretty sure he is not out for the year
