With Harris out at FB and our lack of good players now at FB - and with Gulley & Smith & now our new recruit Morris at RB - it seems to me that AAM has the size and certainly the speed to play FB. Plus wouldn't AAM see more of the field next year at FB?

Im just thinking out loud about how to get our all of our best players out on the field with more PT for all.

yea I could see that, not sure how he is as a lead blocker, but thats what coaching is for.

Love it. Last year at this time, people had AAM wearing 44 and being the next coming of Christ.

Fast forward to this off season, he's being moved to FB. Nice.

It's exactly why it's hard to get all worked up over commit until he shows up and plays.

I would be pissed if that happened. Let him shed ten pounds this off seson and then he will be punishing people.

He can't do that at fullback? Just because most teams don't run their fullback's, doesn't mean SU would with AAM.

Obviously, you haven't been keeping up with the board...don't you know that we're incredibly thin at RB and PTG might not return. :bang:

Just because he's a bigger kid doesn't mean he's a fullback. AAM was one of the staff's must gets last year.

I look for AAM to come out 15-20 pounds ligter next year and be ready to go. at rb not fb

You act like we will be running the flex bone next year. We are not GT and he is the type of back the should get 10-12 carriers next year IMO

Who needs to call anyone a FB? Have AAM as your power back, who should be able to also block well and Gulley as your speed back. I don't want someone out there at FB who being used as a threat to run and the defense doesn't need to worry about.

Let's just take the FB out of the offense.

AAM not going to fullback. With Gulleys return uncertain, we need depth and he has a very bright future (20 pounds lighter) running the ball, not blocking. I believe the fullback will be split between Cutler (if he stays healthy) as an H, and big Tre Burke as the true FB. Just my feeling.

How about we just run some 2 RB packages?

Shotgun 2 RB 1 TE 2 WR, Shotgun 2 RB 3 WR, etc. You can motion one of the RB's to the slot wr spot and actually spread, and get a read on the defense presnap. You could even line up a TE or WR in the backfield with one of the RBs.

Certainly would be alot more dynamic than our current 3 "WR" (one was normally a TE or FB) set where we line up all of our players inside the hash marks and then try and throw short or run right into all 11 defenders up the middle.

AAM came here because he figured he would get playing time with Collier leaving the program. I see AAM leaving the program before he becomes a FB.

Worst. Formation. Ever.

Is that the formation that we ran the TE reverse out of? Don't recall.

Playcalling hasn't been my favorite but at least I can see the logic if the plays are ran well. Some of our formations though, leave me completely baffled.

AAM is the power back to PTG's shifty tweener much like the DC3/Ant combo. DM likes that model.

Makes a lot of sense; have to believe the coaches are looking at what we have, and adjusting schemes to fit the talent.
When you have Carter as your RB, you want Tiller, Cruz and a blocking FB (2010 season). When you have two FBs, and only one very solid RB, maybe you stick with the same basic attack (2011). But when you have several RB candidates, and only one potential FB (Burke), you change your sets to get a wing back and a power back in the mix.
We have more playmakers for next year than we have seen in the Marrone era. So, we should see more formations and more RB by committee.

I don't get why some folks are so quick to write him off as a featured RB. AAM played as a true-Fr. last year, and given the limited, situational role he was used, I don't think you could project his future potential. The kid had some very impressive accolades coming out of HS - let's give him a full year in the program.

Not happening.
I hope you are correct. Watching him in HS i have high hopes for him. Kid has great feet vision is quick and a total bull. I would love to see him getting the ball 15-20 times a game next year
