There is no doubt that some of the on the field developments this year and tactical decisions are disappointing. SU should have won that game against Rutgers 12 ways to Sunday but found a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. However, I honestly believe that we have Marrone to thank (at least in large part) for the current status of SU athletics...namely to be headed to a conference that appears to provide the stability we all were looking for. If SU had remained in the state it was prior to Marrone's appearance on the scene, one would have to really question whether or not SU would have received the ACC invite. Football is steering the ship along with marketplace. However, the expansion we just experienced would be a VERY tough sell in my opinion if the team you were bringing in was coming off a one or two win campaign or had ten total wins over four years. Not even the most ardent Pasqualoni supporters or detractors could have envisioned how low this program had fallen at the time of the previous coaching change. This is not a shot at GRob but rather a suggestion that before we go crazy bashing some of the developments that have taken place thus far, we need to remember how lucky we are to have been placed in a position where we expect to win certain games and see certain results. If the rebuilding process had taken longer to provide some fruit, who knows whether the ACC would have been able to sell SU as an expansion candidate ? Not saying another coach would have been able to help turn the ship around. The point is, we got a guy who did it, who is an alum and who did it at a time where timing was so critical because of the changing landscape of college football. SUOrange44
