Don't let this loss create a loss to Notre Dame. It's tough to compartmentalize huge emotional games like yesterday, but they need to be ready to just let it go and prep hard for Notre Dame. It's going to be another highly emotional and energetic atmosphere next week. They've got to be ready for it.

If yesterday showed us anything - it's that this team can compete and beat any team remaining on our schedule. Hell, for two and a half quarters, they weren't only staying with a CFP team, they were dictating the terms of the engagement. They have to be able to look within themselves and realize that going into bowl season with just one loss is absolutely a realistic outcome; as long as they continue to prepare as they have in the first seven games. Bring that confidence and MOB mentality, and don't let this game become a hangover that lasts for two weeks, and they'll be okay.

Some other notes about the game - yeah, the roughing call sucked, but the call that actually won the game for Clemson was the pass interference in the end zone. That extended the drive and led to a field goal. If they don't take that extra time off the clock and get three more points, SU is in a position to kick a field goal for the win, instead of scrambling for a touchdown.

You can say what you want about that particular play, but 9 times out of 10 that's not called. It wasn't egregious, and he actually was in a much better position than the Clemson dude who simply ran into Damien Alford on the sidelines on the last drive (the play that ended up being a catch after review).

With that said, SU had its chances. Despite the roughing calls and the PI call - SU squandered a ton of opportunity. Those two things don't have to be mutually exclusive. The refs put a dagger in the team's side, but in the end, it was SU that ended up stumbling and falling on it.

Either way - the Orange showed the NATION yesterday what we already knew here. This team can compete with anyone. They probably garnered more national respect in a loss than they had in the 6-0 start. Sure it's a hollow victory, but I think they changed perception nationally yesterday.

For all the complaining about the loss. There shouldn't be anyone who if told at the beginning of the year.
We would be going into Clemson 6-0, and at the end of the game be driving for a winning TD and have an interception on the last play and lose.
All of us would have been happy with that.

Great post. The game was a gut punch, insanely similar to 2018, from the backup being the hero to Clemson running it down our throats in the 4th quarter to almost the final score (27-21 vs 27-23), but this team has heart and really nice depth on defense. I think it did expose our big weaknesses: way too many penalties(though a couple were garbage calls) and lack of a reliable WR beyond OG2. We need to shut down NDs running game and contain their awesome TE as much as possible. Lots left to play for, being out of the CFP mix isn’t exactly a season killer. I have been feeling 9-3 and still feel that way and that would be an unreal season

I have so much respect for this team and the effort they put up yesterday. Sure like everyone else I am disappointed but have never been more proud to be a Syracuse University Football Fan. I can take the loss to Clemson but please not to Notre Dame! Come out on fire and just take ALL the fight out of the fighting Irish. Beat the snot out of them. Go Orange!!!!!

As long as Dino has been here, I've wondered why SU gets penalized so much. I assume back in Mac's days, there were repercussions on each player who committed a penalty during the following practice week, because Mac's teams did not beat themselves. SU needs a "quality analyst" to hold a video session to go over every penalty with the players and explain what's going wrong and how to fix it. Whatever they've been doing is not working.

That said, IMO the video replay showed that Isaiah Johnson played great defense and did not commit PI on that pass. It was bang-bang play so the ref just assumed it was PI. Plus, it's always safe to make the call in favor of Clemson.

In 2018 did the Clemson loss create the Pitt loss?

Cuse is 6-1 and probably should have beaten Clemson on the road. I'm happy. Regroup and play angry vs ND.

It kind of did. We lost in OT on the road. Dungey threw a pick in the end zone to end it.

Is this a rhetorical question? Good teams come back from big losses and refocus for the next week. 2018 was a good team, and despite a disappointing loss the next week they regrouped and put together a good season. They also had a bye week after the Pitt game to regroup and ended up struggling for most of the UNC game. It's tough to get your mind right after these types of losses.

That game was also on the road, which is a bit different from what this version of Orange has in front of them on Saturday.

Not sure if your post was supposed to be setting up a contrarian narrative, or was looking for an actual answer.
