ACC! ACC! ACC!

The old Big East is gone, we are now in the ACC, but if we are talking about the god's honest truth, I don't yet FEEL like Syracuse is an ACC team. In the old days, when push came to shove, if there was a Big East team in the NC game, I always rooted for the Big East team . . . because they were representing. With Duke's win tonight, I don't feel any 'ACC joy' and I feel disappointed that Wiscy lost. Gonna take a good while longer until the ACC feels like 'home.' Just saying.

I just don't understand pulling for conference teams. How on earth does this benefit us? It benefits DUKE. Not other ACC teams.

And I hope that this doesn't put them over the top in our recruiting matchup with Battle.

Wouldn't you want conference teams to succeed so that our portion from the conference tourney earnings increases? Also, conference teams winning makes the ACC appeal even more to recruits as the premier basketball conference in the country.

Money makes it much easier.

I'd like to offer condolences to bballbeadle, a Wisconsin alumnus turned into a consistently rabid SU fan, with great seats rumored to have been acquired through underworld connections. Sorry Beadle, I was pulling for Wisconsin on your behalf. I guess I didn't pull hard enough...

Truth be told, it depends on who that team is. I never, ever, rooted for Uconn / Pitt / Georgetown in the Big East. I couldn't stand those teams or their fans--so conference affiliation be damned. And there are ACC teams that I would never root for, either.

Sure, money is important. But if you think that recruits look at Duke winning and that somehow translates into them wanting to play at Clemson or FSU or Boston College [or Syracuse for that matter], I'll agree to disagree. All last night did was strengthen Duke's position relative to ours on the recruiting trail... as if they needed the boost.

So yeah, money is great. But that just to be clear, Duke winning yesterday provided ZERO financial benefit to the conference--there was no additional funds dispersed to the ACC with them winning last night.

Yes, sorry Beadle and sorry cto, the only Wisconsin fans I know.

It was a great run.

Duke's great, Coach K is great - win or lose that wouldn't change. At some point he's gonna go and they don't seem to have a plan to succeed him.

If it's one less press release for the B1G that's good enough for me.

Do they really need a plan? They'll be able to obtain whatever coach they want.

The only Big East teams I wouldn't root for were Georgetown and UConn. I don't really hate any ACC teams, though NC State is getting there because their fans are trash and Gottfried is a tool, so it was easy to cheer for Duke. Plus, like you said, the B1G losing is perfectly fine.

Agree. Duke is Duke and has long solidified itself as the best of the best, "Top Guns" of college hoops. Their relatively poor performances in the previous two tourneys, had no ill effect on them getting such a stud class for this year...winning it all again. As long as K is there, their program will always be top tier. Rooting for them to lose or do poorly is a lot of wasted energy, since, again, win or lose, the best recruits will continue to go there.

Everyone needs a plan. Look at UNC - they had to go through 2 guys to get their guy. I think Duke is a place where the coach is bigger than the program in a lot of ways since he's such a damn great coach.

I would of rather had UK win.

Now you've gone too far. The losing order is the following (#1 meaning most happy for Orange fans):

1. Georgetown
2. U-Conn
3. UK
4. Duke
5. Louisville

I totally agree. Never cheered for those teams either. If they happened to win, I just take it as a minor bright side or consolation that it helps the conference.

Duke winning in basketball is like Florida State winning in football. It helps us zero.

Agree with it depending on who the team is. Like you, there are certain teams I refuse to root for (UConn, UK, maybe Wisconsin after Ryan's whining last night...you don't go after 1 and done's Bo Ryan? Then why did you recruit Kevin Looney and Diamond Stone?? There's a difference between not recruiting and not getting any commits since nobody wants to play you're slowed down, stubborn style). In terms of recruits, I was talking more about a recruit that is deciding between schools in different leagues. For example, a recruit may look at someone in the ACC more than a same level school in the Pac 12/B1G/SEC based off the fact that the league has the defending champ, 5-6 prestigious programs, and great rivalries. Good point as well about last night not benefiting the conference financially but I think Duke beating MSU on Saturday did benefit the league.
