ACC Coaches Mike Krzyzewski, Roy Williams and Jim Boeheim Welcome Rick Pitino to the ACC

Not sure any league at any one time has had four coaches with the stature of these four legends. Thought the Big East with Calhoun, JB, Pitino and Huggins was the high point. Trading in K and Roy blows that out of the water. Add in Bennet, Buzz, Brey and Larranaga and this is setting up to be a great basketball conference.

They look so AWKWARD in this photo - it looks like their heads are photo shopped on.

Dixon barely shakes hands. He'd would freak out if someone put their arm over his shoulder. Then again, who would want to.

The BE high point was JB, Thompson, Carnesecca, and Massimino.

Great personalities and they built a great conference, but Carnesecca had one Final Four. Thompson built a power that had a great 15 year run. Massimino was a one hit wonder. The latter group and this ACC group blows that one out of the water.

I only referenced the BE. Huggins kills the latter one.

Dixon, Pitino, Wright, Boeheim, Buzz, Huggins, Calhoun/Ollie, etc. ain't too shabby.

Agree that no conference has ever had a better elite Top 4 in terms of basketball coaches then the ACC will next season, but it's hard to argue with the Big East depth when they had Calhoun, Pitino, Boeheim, Dixon, Wright, Thompson III, Huggins or Beilein (take your pick), Brey, and Buzz or Crean (if you took Huggins earlier then you get Buzz here, otherwise if you chose Beilein you get Crean here).

ACC could get that good, but will they get there prior to a couple of the Big 4 leaving or not?

Cheers,
Neil

Gary Williams and PJ Carlesimo might have been in that same group.

It's diluted because the Big East had a billion teams

You can do percentages if you like (60% since I mentioned 9 out of 16) to take the size factor into account. I still think you'll find it hard to come with a comparable list of high achieving coaches operating at a high level for a good period of time together.

Cheers,
Neil

Funny-I haven't heard Pitino crying about SU leaving the BE for the ACC recently.Or Louisville leaving for that matter.
