It is extremely difficult for a coach to come in with a new staff and be successful in a new league.  Even a really good coach like Kelly was at UC crashed and burned, though it should be noted he knew his first year was going to be ugly and was smart enough to redshirt his young players to position the program better for the future.  His successor Jones was a complete failure his first year there too. 
 
DM struggled at Syracuse.  Graham was awful at Pitt.  Holtz took a step backwards at USF.  The Dude at WVU saw the Mountaineer program struggle and fall backwards some.
 
I expect Chryst and Flood, the failed OC at RU they were forced to hire when no one was willing to take the job there, to both fail badly their first years as HCs.  That being said, if there was ever a year a rookie head coach could step in and be really successful right away and if there was ever a league where this could happen, it would be the year 2012 in the Big East.
