I hear you, but that was never a reality. In the BE, we were a flagship school, but it was still egalitarian. Multiple schools had a chance and, indeed, multiple schools had their run over time. The ACC is a two team league. Always has been. The emergence of UVA has shifted that somewhat, but the premise still stands. In all seriousness, the move to the ACC has really damaged the BB program (as has many other things). In the BE days, if you wanted to play for the premier BE programs, your choices were SU, UConn, maybe Gtown, Nova, etc. In the ACC, the choices are Duke & Carolina. Period. SU wasn’t a founder of this league. SU has never won this league. We are, realistically at best, relegated to 3-4th place every year (in good times, with the occasional run for 1st), but, more recently and sadly, looking more like a 7th-9th place team. The point is, we will never be the number one or flagship brand in the ACC like we could obtain in the BE. And, thus, will never actually really compete with Duke/UNC. I am with you. The dream is we form a super conference with us near the top. I’m just not sure that was ever going to happen moving into the ACC neighborhood.
