But even in the 1980s I think doing that would have been too late. Paterno discerned part of that but his NYC born and Ivy League trained biases against the South were far too strong for him to see any farther than Morgantown. So there was no way that Paterno ever would have acted to lead the northeastern 4 into the ACC as a group.
