We reported receiving 38.2 million last year

Hopefully the athletic department is allowed to keep this money to help keep our programs competitive. At some point, you know some programs are going to fall by the wayside because of lack of commitment and investment

You’re not implying that the money earned by the athletic department still goes to the University slush fund like how it was under JC and Cantor? Back when we were actually competitive they ruined the football program by doing that. Schools started to focus on upgrading facilities and our athletic department wasn’t even allowed to keep the $ they earned to re-invest .

I assume you mean Jake Crouthamel when you say JC. He was not there during Nancy Cantor's regime. She fired him (forced him to retire) shortly after she became chancellor. Jake did not even report to the chancellor when he was AD. He reported to the chief financial officer (as bizarre as it sounds) who took every penny he could from athletics and used it for other purposes. After firing Jake, Nancy Cantor hired Daryl Gross ... who reported directly to her and was given a free hand in spending the athletic revenues that he was allowed to keep. It is a miracle that Jake was able to accomplish as much as he did.

It sounds like Jake worked some miracles, all while the athletic department deteriorated and created a decades long issue down the line. It's amazing how good we were in the late 80's and throughout the 90's, but it is a shame that the university didn't understand the long term gains that could have been accomplished with the support of the athletics department.

Jake was the best AD since I've been a student. He was blessed to inherit Jim Boeheim and to have cultivated a relationship with Mac during his Dartmouth days. Both situations Jake allowed them the space to breathe and to create successful programs.

Syracuse isn't Syracuse without Crouthamel. Should be a statue of him smoking a heater under the bleachers at an outside Manley field to fully encapsulate the guy he was.

Always amusing to me when you find it necessary to descend from the mount to set the record straight on a post that is so egregiously erroneous that you feel compelled to respond to set the record straight.

Infinitely less amusing, and frankly quite confusing, is the willingness of posters to declaratively, and unabashedly, post about topics where they clearly have no clue.
