SYRACUSE ORANGE

Syracuse's ability to improve offensively this season lies with Michael Gbinije, along with steps forward for Tyler Roberson and a bulked-up Kaleb Joseph. Tyler Cooney hasn't taken a step back, but he's got to have some help to make the Orange dangerous and Rakeem Christmas is gone. The infusion of a good freshman class, highlighted by 6-6 small forward Malachi Richardson, will help as well, as the Orange will push through Jim Boeheim's nine-game suspension under the direction of coach-in-waiting Mike Hopkins. This might seem like a low projection for a typical Syracuse team, but we're not expecting a typical Syracuse season.

TYLER Cooney...unbelievable

See this is why I'm not worried about depth. It seems like every year, we get new players right out of the blue.
It's a little different this year because we only have 10 scholarship players. But I think we got the athletes to make up for that.

9 scholarship players:

DC2
Obokoh
Roberson
Lydon
Richardson
Gbinije
Cooney
Joseph
Howard

Chukwu is ineligible to play this year. He is on scholarship, but ineligible to play due to transfer rules.

I hope JB/Hop use them all, but I'm not holding my breathe.

They won't be very long on the back line, but will be on the front line.
Small, quick guards could give them a problem.
Teams that pressure the ball could also be a problem.
Teams with multiple bigs will also be a problem.

I think there is a fair amount of talent. Hopefully, they will shoot the ball well as a team. This should allow them to beat the bottom dwellers, even quite easily at times.
However, I think there are some significant holes, and I think the team will struggle against the top teams again.
On the whole, I think middle of the road is very realistic, and it is easy to see where things could go different ways, which could result in greater upside or greater downside.
At this stage, they are a difficult team to read. High end is 27 wins & a 4-5 seed, maybe? Low end is 20 wins & NIT.

It all hinges on DC2's knees. We are a vulnerable team.
