I recall seeing the banner on ESPN during the Pitt game that morning.

I had heard no rumors in the days leading to that memorable Saturday.

It came out of the blue. Thamel broke it the night before it was announced. The board was on fire.

Here is a link from the Cincy board discussing it...it first broke on the 16th...ran wild on the 17th (USC gameday) and we had the formal announcement Sunday morning the 18th.
