Wow is this a dumb list. I would never compare GT and Pink Floyd. I wouldn't compare GT and BC. I would not compare The National to Pink Floyd, and yet all are done here. Really? We are Billy Joel? I guess the good news is that apart from being one of the greatest selling artists of all time, he still sells out The Garden.

the snippet for the comparison actually makes some sense.

Georgia Tech as Pink Floyd:
Slow, methodical and precise. The structures are complex, layered and intentionally hard to follow. Yet, somehow it’s just beautiful to behold and consistently solid over a long period of time in a variety of locations. - See more at: http://athlonsports.com/college-foo...eams-rock-and-roll-bands#sthash.pGrDEMNG.dpuf

I could just as easily say we are Pink Floyd as we are the program that was once beautiful to behold and consistently solid over a long period of time in a variety of locations. We ran Fullback up the middle on first down for what seemed like ten years. In fact, The true blossoming of GT was when they hired members of our former staff (O'Leary). The same could be said for BC (Addazio), or UConn (Pasqualoni or Edsall). Any of them could have been Roger Waters, or later Pink Floyd without Waters, but we're still Pink Floyd.

Billy Joel has no off-shoot and has not even written new music since like 1991, but still sells out (not a great comparison in my opinion, but all in all its just a silly piece anyway, I guess I really dont care.

To be fair, there isn't an artist as divisive and relevant as Justin Bieber in rock n roll.
The same could be said for Miley Cyrus, doesn't mean Justin Beiber is anything even close to a rock and roll artist. He's pop, R&B, and some bad rap mixed in. A quick look at the Billboard Top 100 will show that the real problem is that rock itself is no longer relevant. The top 100 is a hodgepodge of country, rap, and pop. Almost no rock mixed in. Apparently people love their cookie-cutter music written by other people, twangy hay-pop, and thugs. I was thinking about this the other day, whatever did happen to guys like John Mellencamp, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Van Halen, Aerosmith, etc. Rock music just dominated back then. I miss it.

Is Temple the Hooters (one hit wonder who never really amounted to much of anything, but most of us know the song)? Is Rutgers South Side Johnny and the Asbury Park Jukes? (Never really had any substantial success, but Bruce loves them and lets them tour with him). Hey, this is kinda fun.

Pyle, to quote the Who, "Rock is dead. Long Live Rock!"

The U would be Nirvana.

I call BS on NC State being Zac Brown Band. ZBB got to where they are by not playing it safe, bucking traditional ways, and producing a product that reverberates consistently with their fans. State on the other hand relies on a slapstick out of conference schedule to guarantee them 3-4 wins, had Tom O'brien as their coach way too long, and last I checked, still had problems with fans coming back after halftime from their tailgate locales.

If anything, I would have compared them to a "group" like Lady Antebellum. Relying on sugary lyrics to appeal to a broader audience, and having little in the way of substance. After seeing such fawning stories about how supposedly great they are, you start to wonder just how did they become so un-freaking believably popular. Wait a minute, I take that back, Lady Antebellum has actually won some music awards (or in this case, State hasn't won a conference title since '79). Maybe Kenny Rogers? successful long ago, relying now on legacy and an established show for a payday?

I hate billy Joel

I don't hate him but I don't like listening to his music. Hard to explain... I guess I think he is a good song writer but I don't want to listen to his songs. I know... doesn't make much sense.

I can do better than that-

Syracuse = Def Leppard.

Def Leppard was formed in the late 70's, same time that the Carrier Dome was built and Syracuse became a founding member of the Big East Conference.

The Hysteria album (7 singles- Pour Some Sugar on Me, Hysteria, Love Bites, Animal, Rocket) came out in 1987, same year that Cuse football went undefeated. Both Def Leppard and Cuse rode that momentum through the late 1990's.

In the early 2000's Def Leppard's musical style turned more "pop" and was universally criticized, same with Cuse football.

At their peaks, both Syracuse and Def Leppard had a unique style that was immediately recognizable. They are both holding on to dear life of those 80s-90s glory years.

I'd WAY rather be Billy Joel than Def Leppard.

The Beatles? Hear me out. Everyone is discrediting just how long and successful our history is. If we go with Billy Joel or Def Leppard, we are ignoring Jim Brown and Ernie Davis. Ignoring Wilmeth Sidat-Singh. We were innovative, risk takers, and also a bigger badder force to be reckoned with. We had a rejuvenation with the construction of the Dome. We mastered the option offense. The Beatles started as mainstream 3 minute pop superstars and eventually stopped touring in part because their technical studio innovations were too difficult to reproduce in front of 30,000 - 50,000 screaming girls. The band had two lives. The members of the band went separate ways to varying but mostly successful careers elsewhere. Edsall, O'Leary, Pasqualoni, Saban, Tressel... We've had great players on big stages like Monk, Csonka, Morris, Harrison, etc. Problem is the Beatles faced tragedy in John Lennon's killing (Auburn?) and the middling success of Paul McCartney waning with each passing year. George Harrison had some success, and Ringo is still touring...

Or how about this one I just thought of!! Van Halen! There have been what, four iterations of that band? They were probably best in their first line up (Schwartzwalder), changed it up with Sammy Hagar and had some really good success there as well even though the sound was different (Coach Mac and P). Then Gary Cherone (Gerg?) and now they've gone back to the original singer and a new bassist and they're trying to reclaim old glory (Marrone and Shafer).

I just don't get this list. I don't get why anyone would do this and I don't get the comparisons. They are way too forced. Just a dumb waste of everyone's time. Congrats Athlon.

If I was going to compare State to a country artist it'd be Luke Bryan because I hate State and Bryan equally.
