Well some of the booking has had some really bad stuff, but its certainly nowhere close to WCW ridiculous either. I think your use of the word Uninspired is most certainly a fair compromise. I think I heard the other day that between 1999 and 2000, one of the WCW pay per views went down 85%, and most of them went down by over 50% year over year, and some by well over that. I don't think AEW PPV's will trend at that level. Fans are committed to the PPV's - I just don't know if there is a hook for weekly TV when its a lot of the same. Good wrestling, but nothing inspiring driving it. To me the issue with AEW is too much of the same old. I'm not crazy about all elements of the wrestling (but some of it is really good), but let's look at it from the fan who really like almost all the in ring stuff. You have 4 hours of week of really good wrestling matches without much of an inspired story behind them or just random matchups. You now almost have monthly PPV's that are long but generally deliver strongly. That's a lot of wrestling to take in - what's the hook to keep you motivated to watch that much of it each week. I think its pretty easy for such a fan to pass on an episode and think they didn't miss much because nothing is really moving along. I think one of the things that led to the WWE growth in the past few years was character development and character consistency in interactions. And they were on enough for that consistency to grow. AEW has too many bodies. Cutting could help develop characters more and make things feel more important from week to week, rather than just tuning in for some good base wrestling.
