I’ll continue to keep track of how teams did against ranked teams. Just something to look at in evaluating teams. The formula is to give teams points based on the ranking of the team they played: 25 points for playing a #1 ranked team, 24 for #2, 23 for #3, down to 1 point for playing #25. (A shortcut: subtract the number of the ranking from 26). Then you add in the net point differential of the game. Example: Navy lost to #13 Notre Dame 3-42. The Middies get 13 points for playing the #13 team but lose 39 for losing to that team 3-42. Net points: -26. Let’s see who had the best result each week and who accumulates the most points over the season. WEEK 3 Kansas State beat #20 Arizona 31-7 = +30 points Kentucky lost to #1 Georgia 12-13 = +24 Boston College lost to #6 Missouri 21-27 = +14 Missouri beat #24 Boston College 27-21 = +8 South Carolina lost to #16 Louisiana State 33-36 = +7 Arkansas State lost to #17 Michigan18-28 = -1 Utah State lost to #12 Utah 21-38 = -3 Tulsa lost to #15 Oklahoma 19-34 = -4 Wisconsin lost to #4 Alabama 10-42 = -10 Arizona lost to #14 Kansas State 7-31 = -12 Wake Forest lost to #5 Mississippi 6-40 = -13 Oregon State lost to #9 Oregon 14-49 = -18 Tulsa lost to #13 Oklahoma State 10-45 = -22 Texas- San Antonio lost to #2 Texas 7-56 = -25 Northern Iowa lost to #23 Nebraska 3-34 = -28 Ball State lost to #10 U of Miami 0-62 = -46 Purdue lost to #18 Notre Dame 7-66 = -50 Kent State lost to #7 Tennessee 0-71 = -52 It was not a week for big confrontations. Teams went back to work building themselves up rather than making TV happy with big confrontations. WEEKLY LEADERS Week 0 Georgia Tech beat #10 Florida State 24-21 = +19 points Week 1 Georgia beat #14 Clemson 34-3 = +43 points Week 2 Tennessee beat #24 North Carolina State 51-10 = +43 points Week 3 Kansas State beat #20 Arizona 31-7 = +30 points TOP 10 PERFORMANCES Week 1 Georgia beat #14 Clemson 34-3 = +43 points Week 2 Tennessee beat #24 North Carolina State 51-10 = +43 Week 2 Texas beat #10 Michigan 31-12 = +35 Week 1 Boston College beat #10 Florida State 28-13 = +31 Week 3 Kansas State beat #20 Arizona 31-7 = +30 Week 3 Kentucky lost to #1 Georgia 12-13 = +24 Week 2 Northern Illinois beat #5 Notre Dame 16-14 = +23 Week 1 Southern California beat #13 Louisiana State 27-20 = +20 Week 0 Georgia Tech beat #10 Florida State 24-21 = +19 Week 2 Boise State lost to #7 Oregon 34-37 = +16 Week 1 Notre Dame beat #20 Texas A&M 23-13 = +16 TOP 25 CUMULATIVE Boston College +45 points Georgia +43 Tennessee +43 Texas +35 Kansas State +30 Kentucky +24 Northern Illinois +23 Southern California +20 Georgia Tech +19 Boise State +16 Notre Dame +16 Illinois +13 Bowling Green +11 Texas A&M +9 Missouri +8 Houston +7 South Carolina +7 Iowa State +6 Syracuse +6 Baylor +4 Michigan +4 Arkansas +2 Arkansas State -1 Tulane -2 Fresno State -3 The worst game: Week 1: Furman lost to #6 Mississippi 0-76 = -56 points Worst Cumulative: Furman -56 points Syracuse has +6 points. SU opponents: Ohio U. none, (meaning they haven’t played a ranked team: o would mean they played a ranked team and lost by the expected margin) Georgia Tech +19 Stanford none Holy Cross none Nevada-Las Vegas none North Carolina State -29 Pittsburgh none Virginia Tech none Boston College +45 California none Connecticut none U of Miami none
